Airsoft is a sport mainly played by adults, and people of a sensible disposition. It is not to be confused with replicas, props, or 'real steel' items. We do not deal with real firearms, blank-firers, air rifles or BB guns but merely the sport of Airsoft.
Airsoft is a paintball-type recreational game that is played in indoors (CQB), outdoors and at organised mass events that range from Vietnam re-enactment to fictional Special Forces operations. The common point of all of these events is the use of Airsoft guns and Airsoft gun accessories. Airsoft started as a hobby in Japan back in 1980s and is now common in many other countries. In the United Kingdom, its popularity is increasing all the time and the number of enthusiasts grows daily.
Unlike paintball hits from Airsoft gun doesn't leave a mark, but stings a bit. This allows the use of smaller and more lightweight pellets that hurt less and make less mess. This also allows completely different design of the Airsoft gun when compared with paintball guns. Many of our Japanese made Airsoft guns are highly detailed products that have incredible attention to the detail. You will be surprised about how well some of these Airsoft guns are constructed.
Legal
Airsoft weapons are classified as 'Realistic Imitation Firearms' and cannot be modified or adapted in anyway to fire any other type of ammunition or projectile. The only similarity to the 'real' counterparts is purely visual as they are made from either hard ABS plastics or mild metal alloys.
In the United Kingdom; Airsoft replicas should not be brandished in public areas, used in a threatening manner or used for the intention of causing physical or mental injury. It is recommended that Airsoft replicas are used at games and events organised by professional and specific sites. If any individual ignores this advice, they can expect a lethal Police response, prosecution, and confiscation of equipment; this will also bring the sport into disrepute and provide bad publicity for the real enthusiasts.
Airsoft as a game is intended for the enjoyment of all participants, a lack of common sense or malicious intent could provide the sport with Bad press and a restriction on the use of these items. The current legal limit on Airsoft weapons is set at 1 joule; this limit has been set by the Forensic Science Service, the advocated Home Office.
